RICOMET 2026
11th International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities in Ionising Radiation Research
(RICOMET 2026), a meeting for social sciences and humanities (SSH) communities engaging with ionising radiation across disciplines and societal contexts.
Date: 23–25 September 2026
Venue: Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague
❗ Abstract submission deadline – March 15th 2026
As nuclear and radiation-related technologies rapidly evolve, RICOMET2026 seeks SSH research that questions, illuminates, and informs these changes. Key themes include:
✔️ Growing global attention to nuclear energy, including emerging nuclear technologies and small modular reactors
✔️ The climate crisis and its implications for energy systems, risk governance, and intergenerational responsibilities
✔️ Increasing calls for the efficient use of resources and sustainability in dealing with nuclear development, long-term environmental pollution, contamination and waste legacies
✔️ The economics of nuclear power plants, including small modular reactors and their strategic aspects
✔️ Social processes around radioactive waste management and disposal
✔️ Expanded use of ionizing radiation in health care and the associated ethical, social, organizational, communicational and technological challenges
✔️ Shifting geo-political dynamics and emerging security concerns
✔️ Uncertain futures, technological promises, and public imaginaries of radiation-related innovation.
Other themes are also welcome!
We invite contributions from all SSH backgrounds and encourage early career researchers (ECRs) to participate. RICOMET brings together perspectives on emergency preparedness, nuclear medicine, stakeholder engagement, science communication, ethics, risk governance, policy analysis, and more.
We welcome empirical, theoretical, methodological, or reflexive contributions. For more info on abstract submission – https://www.ricomet.eu/
