IRPA established its Task Group on NORM in Industry in 2019 to develop a handbook by and for practitioners. NORM occurs in many industrial processes, and its effective management requires understanding of radiological hazards, regulatory approaches, and the wider workplace context. The handbook brings together practitioners’ knowledge and experience. Its final draft was published in June 2026, and the first final edition is planned for early 2027. This two-part series introduces NORM science, characterization, regulation, and practical radiation protection in industry.

After following this webinar series, it is intended that participants will be able to:

▪ Describe basic NORM science, terminology, and relevant industrial processes.
▪ Explain how NORM is regulated and how a graded approach can be applied.
▪ Characterize NORM, consider radiological hazards alongside other industrial hazards, and identify practical protection measures
