SUMMARY:SRP webinar: New Clearance and Exemption Guidance
DESCRIPTION:Free SRP Webinar:  \nNew Clearance and Exemption Guidance\n16 April 2026 12:00 – 13:00 (BST) \n\n\nIn 2023 the IAEA published two new guidance documents\, one on Clearance and one on Exemption. These documents explain the application of the principles of exemption and clearance in more detail. They also give guidance on the derivation of exemption and clearance levels for specific situations\, for example surface contaminated objects. Importantly\, they do not change the general exemption and clearance levels which are specified in the 2014 IAEA Basic Safety Standards and the 2013 EC Basic Safety Standards. IAEA is currently developing a methodology for calculating specific clearance levels for different materials e.g.\, for metals for recycling\, for concrete for recycling\, for combustibles for incineration\, and for landfill disposal of contaminated slags and dust. Specific clearance is an important concept that directly supports a sustainable approach to decommissioning and clean-up. \nThis webinar describes the key concepts of exemption and clearance and the new IAEA guidance\, highlighting any implications for UK.

SUMMARY:EAN Workshop: Optimization of radiation protection in design
DESCRIPTION:This workshop focusses on the optimization radiation protection in the design of nuclear applications. There is a significant potential to avoid radiation doses and reduce costs by considering radiation protection early in the design phase. A correct design process will lead to an optimized protecting of workers\, the public and the environment while fostering innovation. \nAs we are at a crossroads in the nuclear field where we see new developments of nuclear applications for energy production\, medical applications and research it is important to take stock of the experience gathered and to look how the ALARA principle can be applied practically in the design of new installations. \nAmong the new developments we see the rise of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)\, the development of advanced reactor technologies\, accelerators and next-generation facilities for medical applications from diagnostics and cancer treatment to meet the demands of a cleaner\, more sustainable future. \nThis workshop will bring together stakeholders from different fields to share experiences in implementing radiation protection in design and exchange ideas for further improvement. Whether we’re building reactors for power generation\, facilities for producing medical isotopes or research centers for cutting-edge innovations\, our shared goal remains the same: to ensure the safety and well-being of people and the environment. \nDuring the workshop we will: \n1. Examine the radiation protection challenges and opportunities in designing SMRs\, advanced reactors\, accelerators and facilities for the production of medical isotopes.\n2. Explore innovative strategies to embed the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle into design processes\, balancing technical feasibility\, economic considerations and societal expectations.\n3. Discuss case studies from new and existing installations\, highlighting best practices\, lessons learned and emerging solutions.\n4. Foster collaboration among experts from diverse fields\, including energy\, healthcare and research\, to ensure our efforts are aligned and impactful. \nBy the end of this workshop we will be equipped with actionable insights and inspired by the possibilities ahead. Whether we are revolutionizing energy systems\, advancing medical science or enabling future technologies\, radiation protection and the ALARA principle remain a cornerstone of our progress. \nThe workshop will take place in Tabloo (Dessel\, Belgium) from 22 to 24 April 2026.

SUMMARY:ICRP Webinar: Lessons for Radiological Protection from the Chornobyl NPP and Fukushima Daiichi NPP Accidents
DESCRIPTION:Join us on 27 April 2026 as ICRP and global RP experts present Lessons for Radiological Protection from the Chornobyl NPP and Fukushima Daiichi NPP Accidents. \nThis webinar aims to answer the central question: are we better prepared to protect people and the environment in situations of radiological accidents\, and have we truly learned from the past? \nAs with all ICRP Digital Events\, registration is free if you require it\, however\, participants and organisations are encouraged to purchase a paid option wherever possible.
